Hidden Treasures of Galle - Biodiversity Map

Galle is Sri Lanka’s Rainforest city - and we would like to invite you to experience some of its wonders and treasures.

The historical Galle city has been a famed destination for exotic spices and ocean trade for over 300 years. Today trade has slowed, but if you are willing to explore, you can experience glimpses of the past in its rarer and unique natural treasures.

The lush, emerald-green rainforest environment of Galle has an abundance of large trees, verdent shrubs and clean streams which are home to many of Sri Lanka's endemic and endangered plants and animals. The hills and countryside surrounding Galle contain more than 70% of the country’s biodiversity.

We have identified some interesting and unusual natural heritages sites for your experience and enjoyment during your visit to Galle Rainforest City.

See if you can spot the rare and beautiful Sri Lankan Blue Magpie, catch the flashes of bright Cherry Barb fish as they dart about the streams or watch a leaping Purple Faced Leaf Monkey move through the trees.
