what we do : education & training
Education & training

We believe education and capacity building are essential elements of every programme. Whether working with individuals to improve home-gardens, with schools on biodiversity, or with CBOs to replant a barren area, we empower people to make informed lifestyle choices to help protect their natural environment.

Training
Our adult training programmes focus on sustainable farming practices. They are tailored to suit the needs of the communities we work in — whether Sinhala or Tamil, dry zone or wet zone, community farms or individual small holders. Each of our programmes follow the same basic format, using Analog Forestry principles:

  1. Biodiversity and socio-economic baseline surveys conducted
  2. Mapping of farm lands
  3. Needs analysis of the farmer, community and native biodiversity
  4. Planting design and plan developed
  5. Organic agricultural workshops
  6. Donation of plants and seeds for planting
  7. Monitoring, evaluating and retraining where required

Education
Our children's education programmes have one major aim: to give kids a love for the environment and the skills to help protect it into the future. Whether we are running an after-school club, a special school event for World Environment Day, or a formal programme to teach children how to garden, we want them come away feeling like they can make a difference.
